Staff Support Program

Working at Ambulance won't offer you a run-of-the-mill office job - that's why so many people are drawn to our organisation. The flip side of this is that you may find yourself responding to highly emotional and often confronting incidents. This is why we've put in place a range of support services, which you or your family can confidentially tap into any time.

Ambulance's employee support system is designed to ensure the health and welfare of our workforce and includes the following services:

Employee Assistance Program

Ambulance contracts a private organisation to provide free, professional counselling for personal or work related problems for both employees and their immediate family. Managers and staff can also access this service to resolve workplace issues including advice on traumatic incidents and arrangements for on-scene support following a traumatic incident.

Peer support

Ambulance has more than 100 peer support officers who are operational staff providing support, out-of-hours on most occasions, to colleagues who may be affected by exposure to traumatic workplace incidents.

Chaplaincy services

Ambulance chaplains provide confidential individual counselling, pastoral care and spiritual support to employees who may be affected by traumatic workplace incidents or who may experience personal issues.

Employees are able to refer themselves to any of the services or can be referred by a manager, work colleague, peer support officer or Ambulance Chaplain.
