SCAT Paramedic Mick Wilson farewelled by colleagues

04 Jan 2012

Hundreds of paramedics and Ambulance staff were joined by colleagues from emergency services across Australia to farewell Special Casualty Access Team paramedic Mick Wilson at St James Anglican Church on Tuesday 3 January 2012.

Father of three Mick Wilson died while attempting to rescue a man at Carrington Falls on Christmas Eve.

Phillip St was closed to all traffic and a guard of honour was formed by his ambulance, police and fire colleagues.

His coffin was carried into the church by his colleagues where he was married some 16 years ago to his wife Kellie Wilson.

A requiem mass in thanksgiving was held and tributes were delivered by his brother Hayden Wilson, friends Sean Westaway, David Irvine, SCAT paramedic colleagues Garth Thompson and Greg Kirk, and his wife Kellie supported by their three children.

Tributes flowed about a man dedicated to his family and to his profession and to the thousands of patients lives that he had touched over his 16 years as a paramedic.

With the service concluding, the guard of honour was re-formed and his family said goodbye for the last time while the Police and Ambulance helicopters passed over.

A family appeal has been set up to support the family.
