Locations and frequency of Governance days
- Bankstown Base Clinical Governance Day (fortnightly)
- Wollongong Base Clinical Governance Days (monthly)
GSA HEMS Clinical Governance Days are attended by all available registrars, consultants and paramedics and are also open to other NSW Ambulance staff, medical students, visiting clinicians and international guests. They incorporate training and educational elements, with a specific focus on addressing all aspects of Clinical Governance.
Clinical Governance Days consist of:
- multi-disciplinary case reviews of out-of-hospital and inter-hospital missions identified by senior retrieval consultants in their daily review of missions
- monthly Morbidity and Mortality review - cases are reviewed formally with de-identified mission notes; management challenges and systems issues are discussed
- monthly airway audit of emergency anaesthesia cases and Key Performance Indicators
- clinical lectures by consultants and registrars
- journal club - critical evaluation of out-of-hospital and retrieval literature
