Community Education
Programs
Our core business is the delivery of emergency pre-hospital
health care and transport services. While this continues to be
our primary focus, we also recognise the value of developing
community safety
and prevention programs.
Working together with stakeholders and the
NSW community we have developed a number of community education
programs including the Be An Ambulance Hero – Dial Zero Zero Zero school education program, the Emergency Helpers program for pre-school age children, the First Steps campaign for new parents
and the Life Live It Save It program for retirees
Be
An Ambulance Hero - Dial Zero Zero Zero

School education program designed for 5-8 year olds to educate children on what
to do in an emergency.
The program assists teachers educate children on the following topics:

Simple
decision making skills
-
The
difference between a little
accident and a big accident,
including how to identify
an unconscious person
-
Understanding
how to call an ambulance in
an emergency
-
The
emergency number in Australia -
triple zero (000)
-
Increase
the number of children able to
effectively call for
an ambulance in an emergency
-
Develop
the confidence and skills necessary
for children to
be able to call an ambulance
in an
emergency and
answer questions asked by 000
call takers.

Emergency
Helpers

As a pre-cursor to
the Be an Ambulance Hero: Dial Zero Zero Zero primary
school education program, the Ambulance Emergency
Helpers Program aims to prepare younger children
for emergency situations.
Program lessons include:

to identify an emergency service
worker

The
number to call in an emergency
-
The
importance of learning their home
address

First Steps

The ‘First Steps’ campaign is an Emergency Phone Card that outlines information
required by Ambulance Call Takers so that an ambulance
can be dispatched quickly. It also gives parents
and carers the information they need to give to attending
Paramedics.

The Emergency Phone card aims to:

reassure
new parents that in a medical emergency
they should call triple zero for an
ambulance;
-
familiarize
parents with the questions they may
be asked when calling for an ambulance
to make the collection of information
easier for the Ambulance Call Taker;
and
-
Inform
parents of the type of information
that paramedics will require when they
arrive on scene to help treat the child

Life..
Live It Save It!

Community education
program for over 55 retirees to recognise and deal
effectivey with medical emergencies.
LIFE…Live it Save it is free to all community clubs in New South Wales who cater
to retirees. The self-learning program
is designed to be facilitated by community members
in a group environment and includes viewing an instructional
DVD highlighting the Program’s key objectives which
are:

‘000’ immediately for an
ambulance

Ambulance is committed to assisting the community create
safer and healthier environments and outcomes by making prevention
everyone’s business.
A number of innovative community education programs
have been
implemented to assist identify life threatening conditions,
understand what to do in an emergency and the importance
of adopting illness prevention
strategies.
