Dear Sir/Madam
On Saturday 29 August 2009, I had cause to call 000 for my elderly aunt who had fallen out of bed while staying with her sister, who is in her 80s. The telephone operator was exceptional in her manner, advice and the calm way she spoke with me to get the details, directions and advice she gave to me over the phone. When the two ambulance men arrived they were extremely calming, caring and totally professional. They treated us all with respect and were so very kind to Vera, who they conveyed to Bankstown Hospital.
I just wish to extend our sincere thanks to all involved, we could not have asked for anything more than the treatment we received, and these people were wonderful.
Yours sincerely

Hello,
I am 16 and I have my Learner licence. On 13 December 2008, I was driving to the new Woolworths at Belmont. I picked my cousin up on the way so she could come for the drive. My mum was the supervising driver and my cousin was in the back seat.
At approximately 1:15 pm, I had a car accident at the traffic lights on
the corner of the Pacific Highway and Evans Street. That was the moment that
broke my heart. Many people had seen the accident and within a fraction of
a second, there were many people standing around the accident. As soon as I
got out of the car, I checked to make sure my mum and my cousin were okay,
but I realised they weren’t. I was almost certain my cousin was dead with blood
EVERYWHERE and that was really scary. She was unconscious. My mum was screaming
in pain. One man called Triple Zero (000) as soon as he saw it happen and I
kept saying
“Where’s the ambulance?” “Where’s the ambulance?”
I was in so much shock and I thought my mum and my cousin was never going to make it and all I could do was pray to God they would. I can’t explain in words how good it was to hear those sirens. Just to know they are on their way. In a matter of seconds, the two ambulances arrived.
I remember two of the paramedics were Scott and Dominic. I didn’t get to meet Scott because that’s who took my mum to hospital. There was another paramedic who attended the accident but I don’t know her name. She was really caring too and she did a really good job of looking after me. She kept telling me everything would be okay and that made me feel better.
My cousin was taken out of the car and put in the ambulance. I was asked to go in the ambulance with her and Dominic. My mum had to be cut out of the car. When I got into the ambulance, I kept asking “How long will she be?” I remember Dominic said “About 20 minutes” and all I wanted to do was see her. Dominic was so caring and he did a really good job of looking after me. On the way to the hospital, he said he went to school with my cousin’s aunty. He also went to school with two of my uncles so my grandma knew him.
When we arrived at the hospital, I sat in the waiting room and all I wanted to do was see my mum. It felt like forever until she arrived at the hospital. Even then, I wasn’t allowed to see her. I couldn’t stop crying when I was in the waiting room and a lady saw me crying and she came up to me and asked if I was ok and what happened. I thought that was really nice of her. One of the nurses also saw I was upset and comforted me.
My mum was in hospital for two months. She even spent Christmas in hospital and that was heartbreaking because it’s the first Christmas she wasn’t home to see me unwrap my presents and she wasn’t there to have lunch or dinner with me and it was not the same.
When my mum came home in February, she was experiencing severe back pain. We called an ambulance and coincidentally, it was the same paramedic as the one who attended the accident. That was Dominic. I remember as soon as I opened the door, he said “Melissa. I remember you” and I remembered him too.
Paramedics are special people and they do an amazing job. Ever since my accident, I have wanted to become a paramedic because I realised how good of a job they do and how rewarding it is. I will never change my mind. My only wish is that I can see Dominic again because I want him to know I want to be a paramedic like him and follow his footsteps. He is an inspiration.

I would like to thank the Emergency Services and especially Nick from Huskisson NSW Ambulance Service for the courteous professional and efficient response to my 000 call on Thursday 13 August 2009 around 7.00am.
My father, Thomas F was taken ill whilst we were staying in holiday accommodation. He'd passed out in the bathroom and my mother called me to assist. It was early morning and there were no medical services available to come to the house. We had no idea why dad was unwell so in desperation rang Triple Zero (000). The Ambulance Service telephonist was very helpful and explained an ambulance can come to the house and access the situation without necessarily taking him to hospital. This was such a relief and even better when Nick arrived who was an absolute breath of fresh air. My father was so worried about troubling an ambulance and Nick assured him it was the correct thing to do. He was patient and reassured dad he was no trouble and wanted to ensure dad was not required to go to hospital unless he wanted to. I had no idea dad had blood pressure problems which we now know is the case thanks to Nick's thorough examination of him.
Thanks to Nick's reassurance and fun attitude we could attend to dad and he could rest whilst away from home. These "Unsung Heroes" need a mention as they don't just do a job but bring their wonderful personality in to what could've been a really bad time for us. Thanks again to the truly brilliant service The Ambulance Service of New South Wales provide and for giving us the support we so needed from Nick.
Regards

Dear Sir,
I would like to bring to your attention the excellent job being done by two of your paramedics, David and Chris from Toukley Ambulance Station. David and Chris were sent to provide emergency help to me when I crashed my trail bike in the Watagans Forest near Morriset on 5 July 2009.
They were required to travel a considerable distance from their station and arrived in a relatively short time to provide me with relief from the severe pain I was experiencing. David and Chris were calm and professional and quickly dealt with the situation.
Their concern for my welfare was genuine and I had absolute confidence that they would do what was best for me. This included ensuring that I was taken to Gosford Hospital where I would receive immediate attention and be in close proximity to my family who needed to travel from Sydney.
Unfortunately, members of the public do not appreciate how much we depend on people like David and Chris until we get hurt or become seriously ill and need emergency aid. It is also unfortunate that our politicians and bureaucrats do not provide sufficient money and resources to support our ambulance officers.
I hope that this letter is formally acknowledged by Ambulance NSW as a vote of support and praise for it’s paramedics, in particular David and Chris.
Yours Faithfully

To whom it may concern,
My name is Trish and I am a member of the Wollondilly branch of WIRES. On the night/early morning of 13/14 June, police officers arrived at the Camden Ambulance station with a baby wombat. Unfortunately the officers had accidentally hit the mother and the joey had been knocked from the pouch. He suffered numerous cuts and abrasions as well as stress and trauma from having his mother killed. Paramedics on duty that night took the time to clean and bandage his hurts as best they could before he was delivered to one of our carers.
Sebastian (as he was christened) has been in care ever since. On taking him to a vet at the earliest possible convenience it was found that one of his little arms was broken in two places as well as his elbow being dislocated. He needed five stitches in an open wound on his foot and lost all but one of his claws on that foot.
So now here we are two months down the track. Sebastian has had his cast off for a month and his last x-ray showed his bones had repaired really well. The wound on his foot has healed and his claws are starting to grow back. He is feeding really well, eating lots of grass, is very active when he's awake and has managed to put on a whole kilo since coming into care. He has a girlfriend, Charlotte, (she has her own tragic story to tell) who is a little bit bigger than him but he adores her. I'm not really sure if the feelings are mutual or not but she puts up with him.
I have no idea who the kind paramedics were who helped Sebastian that fateful night but I would like to thank them for taking the time to care. Not everyone would. Your first-aid expertise has probably saved Sebastian from any infections attacking his open wounds that night, which would probably have killed him as he had so many other things to deal with at the time.
Once again, thanks for your help.

Accident victim praise district health professionals
Through your paper I would like to offer a big thank you after being injured by a horse and treated by paramedics from both Grafton and the helicopter paramedics from Lismore. These people are so professional in their work. They go about their job in such a way as to instil full confidence in you, the patient.
A special thank you to the nurses on the orthopaedic ward at Lismore Hospital. You not only worked to above expectations by the ‘system’ but are required to be cheerful and pleasant at all times of the day and night with some overbearing patients. You are truly a devoted group of people.
Today there are not too many accolades given out to personnel working within the NSW public health system, however, after my experience with the Ambulance Service of NSW and the nursing staff at Lismore Base Hospital I would like to say a big thank you for a job well done.

Hello,
I now work at Ambulance, and I’ve been wanting to write this letter of thanks for many months now. Please, can you pass this onto the paramedics who were involved in helping my dad, along with my deepest gratitude.
My father had a sudden heart attack on Monday, June 23 2008. He was jogging down Cranbrook Road in Bellevue Hill (around 7am I think), when he suddenly collapsed. He was only 62 and the heart attack was entirely unexpected, particularly since he was a fit man who never smoked. Luckily a neighbour saw him collapse and called for help while trying to give him CPR. Unfortunately for my Dad, the heart attack was as good as fatal and I’m not clear on the details but I understand he was without oxygen for around 40 minutes in total. During that time the paramedics arrived, gave him CPR, several shots of adrenalin, defibrillated him and somehow – incredibly - they brought Dad back to life, though I think he remained unconscious throughout this experience.
Sadly, my father never regained consciousness and he passed away five days later, on Friday 27 June. However I feel deeply grateful to the paramedics who managed to bring him back, even if only for a short time, so that we could say our goodbyes and spend those priceless five days with him in hospital. That window of time was a gift to my family and it helped to ease the incredibly difficult grieving period that has since followed.
I like to think that Dad heard us say goodbye to him in hospital, and even if he didn’t I will always treasure the opportunity that those paramedics gave us to hold Dad’s hand and kiss his cheek one last time.
I would welcome the opportunity to talk to the paramedics, but I completely appreciate that their details should remain confidential.

On Saturday 4 May 2009, paramedics attended my 76 year old mother in Kanwal. The paramedics were very professional as mama was quite scared as her heart was not quite right. The paramedics arrived very quickly and were very attentive and calming. I thank them very much for not only delivering the initial medical treatment needed for a suspected cardiac event but also for the care they showed. My mum and her family very much appreciate it.

Hi there,
I called Triple Zero (000) a few months ago with excruciating cramps throughout my legs. It turned out to be dehydration in the end, but at the time I was really panicked and scared and in quite a lot of pain. An ambulance was despatched and my call was transferred to a medical person who talked to me while I waited for the ambulance to arrive.
I just have to send my appreciation to whoever that person was. They were absolutely amazing. They calmed me down, they helped me stop the pain, they really made a huge difference - I am not sure what I would have done otherwise. I really don't.
Anyway, I am not sure if there's anyway of you tracking down who I spoke to, but I have sung their praises to many people since!
A million thankyous!
Christian T
Hello,
On 6 July 2009 at about 10pm, I made an emergency Triple Zero (000) call for myself.
Luckily, I got Belinda and I can’t remember the other paramedic but they were both from Campsie. They were prompt, extremely friendly and caring. They were very reassuring to me as it was a scary situation. Hopefully I will never have to call them again, but if I have to I hope I get them again.
Can you please pass on a huge thankyou. They are truly lifesavers who are excellent at their job. Apologies to the other girl but please investigate her name and get back to me when you have thanked her on my behalf.
With much gratitude

Hi,
My husband and I would like to thank the two ambulance personel who attended to my husband's hand in Cringila.
I am sorry but we did not get the names. We would also like to say that all of you do a teriffic job and we appreciate all the work that you do.
Kind regards
Paul and Kara
To whom it may concern,
Would like to express my appreciation to two of your paramedics who attended my son at Oyster Bay oval on Saturday 13 June, 2009. My son Matthew was injured playing goal keeper for Georges River, hurting his back. As a result of this, an ambulance was required, where he was placed on a spinal board as a precautionary measure and transferred to St George Hospital. Both paramedics were very professional and re-assuring, which was most appreciated by all concerned.
As a matter of interest to you two guys, as I'm sure you both were aware, Matthew had the Sutherland Shire Mayoral Ball to attend that night and was very concerned that he might not be able to make it. With the expertise that both you guys showed in getting Matthew to hospital as quickly and safely as possible, was very much appreciated.
After many tests and x-rays, the prognosis proved to be favorable with no severe injuries obtained, other then soft tissue damage, meaning that with some pain killers he was able to get to the ball, a little stiff, a bit sore and sorry for himself, but still a big grin on his face.
Many thanks to both you guys
Kind regards,
John, Kelly, Matthew W and off course Laura "debutant".
To whom it may concern,
On Wednesday 24 June 2009, my husband Neville was driving our car when he started getting chest pain. The security guard at the gate rang for an ambulance immediately and made my husband comfortable until the ambulance arrived a short time later.
Neville was then transported to Campbelltown Hospital where it was confirmed that he had indeed suffered a serious heart attack. We were told that another 1/2 hour and he may not have survived.
My family would like to extend 'OUR SINCERE THANKS" to the two ambulance paramedics who attended that day and saved my husbands life. They both were so professional, kind and caring which eased my husbands concerns. They both came back into the Emergency dept a few hours later and called in to see how he was doing, where I had the pleasure of meeting them both. One of the offices then came up to the ward as he was finishing work for the day to again see how he was going. It was at this stage that my husband was able to share a joke with him. He had dark curly hair and a moustache. If you could pass this letter on to them we would be grateful.
They do such a wonderful job and without them my husband would not be here today. Maybe they just say that they are just doing their job, but they do such a wonderful job and they should be recognised for their efforts.
Kindest regards
Lindy B
Dear paramedics,
Thank you does not seem enough to say for the excellent and professional way in which you handled the situation. Travis had fallen from the pommel and dislocated his left elbow. His Grandmother and sister arrived. Travis was in an extreme amount of pain, the green whistle was such a life saver.
By the time I got there both his sister and grandmother were crying. The male paramedic had to manoeuvre the ambulance and then bring the bed on wheels inside the gym. The female paramedic did the most fantastic job consoling Travis, tending to all his needs and answering all his questions - not easy! She calmed me down and was very factual and to the point.
When I asked if Travis could be taken to Westmead Children's Hospital, that was fine.
I cannot speak highly enough about the first Ambulance experience my son has had. Hopefully it will be his last, but I am confident if the need ever arises again that we will all feel relieved that we know that the service is fantastic!
Travis is nearly ready to go back to gymnastics!
Thank you

Dear Paramedics,
Thank you for being so gentle with getting me to the hospital so quickly. I
also thank you for caring for me.
Travis
I recently had to call Ambulance for their assistance and would like to extend my thanks to the wonderful paramedics who assisted me on that night. So would you please make sure this letter of appreciation gets through to them and their superiors.
It was Sunday 12 July 2009 at approx 8.30pm. My husband rang as I was in agonizing pain from my back and sciatica nerve all the way down my right leg and couldn't get off the floor. They arrived very quickly and from the moment they arrived they comforted me telling me I would be alright and they would help immediately to relieve the pain. Our house is not the best to get a stretcher in and out of so they had to carry me which is no easy task. Once in the ambulance heading for the hospital they talked to me continually checking how the pain was and if there was anything else they could do to make me more comfortable as the pain was still there.
I think there names were Lisa and Michael and funnily enough I remember one was a Libra and the other a Sagittarius as they needed to know my DOB and I think they talked about that to try to get my mind off my pain.
Thank you again
Mary L
To whom it may concern,
I had to call an ambulance for myself recently. I reside in Unanderra and I believe the ambulance arrived at my place with good timing from Wollongong City.
I also wish to express my surprise and thankfulness to those two paramedics who attended to me and my needs. They were both friendly and courteous, but at the same time, very professional in their work and manner. They also showed concern for my wellbeing and respect. I enjoyed a pleasant ride to the Wollongong Hospital because of their particular manner and professionalism.
I don’t know who they were but one was a female and seemed to be the more senior while the other was a male. They both surprised me very much with their genuine concern and I think that they and the staff of Ambulance should be highly commended.
Thank you
William P
Hello,
This is a much belated compliment to the Ambulance Service of NSW. I was watching 4 Corners (Monday 6 July 2009) which prompted this email.
The only time I have had to call an ambulance was in 2004 when my Grandmother collapsed and did not respond to my trying to talk to her.
I called Triple Zero and the ambulance responded very promptly. The paramedics were fantastic. They not only looked after my Grandmother with professional medical care, they were incredibly supportive towards me as I was clearly upset and unnerved. Once we arrived at the hospital, they even came back to me a few minutes later to see how I was.
I really wish I could compliment the individual paramedics, but I didn’t get their names. I only have fantastic things to say about the Ambulance Service of NSW. You do a terrific job in difficult and stressful circumstances. Thank you so much for a job well done.
Cathy
To whom it may concern
I would be grateful if the following message can be passed on to the relevant paramedics.
I would like to express my gratitude to the two paramedics that attended
to me on Friday night 5June 2009 at St Ives. I had earlier experienced severe
abdominal pain caused by (what I subsequently found out was) a stone lodged
in my bile duct.
The paramedics were prompt, kind, attentive and thorough in their examination
of me. The stone “dislodged” itself while they were examining me, and the pain
subsided. Their care and assistance made the whole ordeal so much more bearable.
I have made an anonymous donation to the Ambulance Service, but because I don’t know their names, I cannot donate in their names. However, they will know who they are, and I thank them again.
With best wishes,
Steve F
I would like to sincerely thank Tom and Paul who attended to my Aunt's unfortunate accident in the shower at her home in Burwood. They were not only professional in their duty but compassionate and very caring towards a person in their 90th year. Also, upon seeing them again in Concord Hospital with another accident, they not only asked if we were being satisfactorily attended to, but they remembered my Aunt's name......
Accolades and encores to them as I now know of two very fine young and galant gentlemen.
Thanking you
L Myles
To whom it may concern,
I'm a case manager with the Assertive Outreach Team at Royal North Shore Hospital and I attended one of my clients homes at Mosman on Monday 15 June 2009 only to find him slumped in his chair, unable to speak coherently or move his left side. I subsequently called Triple Zero (000) to request an ambulance attend as I thought he had had a stroke (unfortunately psychologists don’t get much medical training). As it turned out my client was suffering from a ‘hypo’ and had a BSL too low to register.
I wanted to thank the two paramedics, Chris and Troy, who attended to assist my client. They were very professional, caring and attentive towards my client, despite some of his delusional ideas appearing. This was refreshing for me to see given the way I have seen so many other professions treat people with mental illness. It was fortunate that Chris had knowledge of psychotropic meds too. I also wanted to thank them for their patience when trying to convince my client to attend hospital to be checked out by the doctors. My client was fairly resistant to this idea, yet they both persisted for a significant length of time and eventually we got him there without the use of a schedule. As a result my client was admitted to RNSH on Monday night where he has remained since as his BSL is still consistently low.
I used to work in a Crisis Mental Health setting and know too well how thankless it can be at times, so I hope this message is passed on to both of them so they know what a great job they did.
Kind regards,
Michelle
To whom it may concern,
I wish to give my thanks for the service given by two of your officers to my son. I contacted Triple Zero (000) on 18 May 2009 at about 7.40pm to attend our address at Thirroul. My son had been injured in a soccer match on the previous day and collapsed at home on the Monday night as he was home by himself at the time he rang me and told me he could not move.
I arrived within 5 minutes at the most and found that he could move but was flat out on the floor and had excruciating neck and back pain. He also had hyperventilated and was turning blue. Having worked in a private hospital I was aware not to move him and called the ambulance.
The operator gave me advice as to which I was already aware of and even though it took awhile for the ambulance to arrive when they did they were excellent. My son was transported to Wollongong Hospital with suspected spinal injuries where we had a three hour wait in the corridor. My son was very agitated and I could not calm him down. Both officers were excellent and as you can imagine this was a very upsetting situation that both my son and I were in.
One paramedic looked after Matthew while the other attended to me and both paramedics managed to keep us very calm. I would like to commend all six paramedics that were in the corridor of the hospital that night as they had their own patients to look after as well as making sure if I wanted something they could certainly help.
All paramedics that were in the corridor that night came into the hospital at least three more times after my son was finally admitted to a bed and they checked on his wellbeing at every time and even helped with the correct transfer for x-rays. These paramedics are to be commended for not only their efficiency and professionalism but for their compassion and understanding. I would be hoping if we needed an ambulance again that we got these pair of woman. They are a credit to the New South Wales Ambulance Service.
Please pass on our thanks to them.
Thank you

Dear Sir/Madam
I would like to thank the two paramedics who attended a call on Monday 11 May 2009 to unit in Hassall Street, Westmead. Their compassion, care, empathy and utmost patience in assisting my neighbour and transporting her to Westmead Hospital under somewhat difficult circumstances never waivered. Their friendliness, sense of humour and their high level of professionalism made it a lot easier for my neighbour to accept her fate and finally accept that she needed further treatment.
Another important quality they showed was their non-judgemental attitude and acceptance of my neighbour and her situation.
They are an asset to the NSW Ambulance Service and I hope they will be acknowledged and my thanks passed on. Unfortuantely I did not get their names
Thank you once again

To whom it may concern
On 8 September 2008 at Bossley Park Nursing Home, I suffered a reaction to an allergy and took a turn for the worst.
This is an experience that I’ve been through on one prior occasion, it was quite harrowing and not one that I remember for the right reasons. On this particular day, I was going through the motions at work when all of a sudden I felt the onset of similar symptoms and the staff called the Ambulance Service immediately. What happened next when the paramedics arrived is the reason for my email.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the paramedics that made me feel safe whilst reliving one of the more scary moments of my life, they were extremely compassionate, professional and quick to act when called upon.
I was amazed and very appreciative of these young ladies work that day and I hope that this message reaches them so they know that I will never forget the good work that they did under difficult circumstances
Apologies for the extended delay in writing, but I wanted to try and add a personal touch by finding the names of the paramedics and have not managed to do so
Thank you and all the best

Dear Sir/Madam,
On Monday night, 2 February 2009, my daughter was transported from the Piazza Medical Centre at Castle Hill to Westmead Hospital. I just wanted to thank the paramedics from Castle Hill Station for looking after us while getting to the hospital and while we were at Westmead Hospital as the waiting time was extensive.
They were wonderful to us and their professionalism and courtesy helped me to stay calm in a difficult situation.
Please pass on my thanks to both of them.
Kind regards,
Karen H
On Monday 20 April at approximately 4.15pm, my mother called Triple Zero (000) to request an ambulance for my father who she thought may be having a heart attack. Two paramedics arrived very quickly and attended to Dad and then they called for additional help and two more paramedics arrived soon after.
The care given to Dad by your people was outstanding, not only were they professional, knowledgeable, calm and efficient but they treated Dad with respect and allowed him to maintain his dignity in a very difficult situation. Mum said the teamwork was amazing and she said that she immediately felt that Dad could not be in any better hands.
I wish I knew the names of the paramedics so we could thank them personally, but I hope you can assist me by passing on our heartfelt thanks. We fully realise that without your paramedics and the excellent care given by Mona Vale Hospital Emergency that Dad would not be with us today.
NSW Ambulance Service should be very proud of their employees - they are a credit to themselves and the Service.
With thanks and regards
Beth M
PS. I dropped morning tea off at Mona Vale Emergency Department in the hope that the paramedics that helped Dad get sent there today - I know it's a long shot but I didn't know how else to find them.
I would just like to say a big thank you to the paramedics who helped me recently.
I took ill at Castle Towers Shopping Centre on Saturday 16 May 2009. I was taken to the medical centre in the Piazza. An ambulance was called as I was in extreme pain in the midriff area. All were concerned that I may have had a heart problem. A paramedic arrived before the ambulance, he did an ECG on me and suggested that I go to hospital for further tests, as a heart problem could not be fully ruled out.
Paramedics Rick and Steve arrived and transported me to the Hills Private Hospital. They were so very helpful and so very nice. They made me feel so much ‘better’ as I was quite frightened by what I was experiencing. They stayed with me at the hospital until I was admitted, talking and just making me feel at ease.
Please pass on my thanks to these three guys, they do such a wonderful service, I will be forever grateful for what they did for me.
The good news is, I did not have a heart problem, all is fine there! I was admitted to the hospital and after tests my gallbladder was removed.
Yours sincerely,
Pamela P
Hi,
I'm the major carer for my 92 year old mother. Over the past two years she has been transported to hospital at least six times or maybe more. I have realised recently that not enough people commend the Ambulance Service and its officers.
My mother has always been treated with dignity, courtesy, kindness and efficiency. She felt immediately comforted by the actions of the officers concerned. On occasions it has been a life or death situation and she has immediately felt at ease with their attitude.
On three occasions I was overjoyed to know that the ambulance officers helping my mother were known to me. One of them, Nathan M, went to school many years ago with my son. Nathan was so compassionate and caring it made a huge difference with my mother's age, heart condition and lung complications. He went out of his way (or maybe this is just how they operate) to follow up her condition at Ryde Hospital and relay to me in the waiting room her condition.
Lately I have realised not enough is said on these trying occasions to give these wonderful people the praise they deserve. I hope you will follow this up with acknoweldging my gratitude to their wonderful treatment of my mother.
Thank you,
Diane B
