Thank a Paramedic Letters

Following are some recent letters received thanking paramedics for their help. The paramedics names have been withheld but they have received personal acknowledgement for their efforts.

Dear Sir/Madam

I would like to thank the two paramedics who attended a call on Monday 11 May 2009 to unit in Hassall Street, Westmead. Their compassion, care, empathy and utmost patience in assisting my neighbour and transporting her to Westmead Hospital under somewhat difficult circumstances never waivered. Their friendliness, sense of humour and their high level of professionalism made it a lot easier for my neighbour to accept her fate and finally accept that she needed further treatment.

Another important quality they showed was their non-judgemental attitude and acceptance of my neighbour and her situation.

They are an asset to the NSW Ambulance Service and I hope they will be acknowledged and my thanks passed on. Unfortuantely I did not get their names

Thank you once again
Julia N

To whom it may concern

On 8 September 2008 at Bossley Park Nursing Home, I suffered a reaction to an allergy and took a turn for the worst.

This is an experience that I’ve been through on one prior occasion, it was quite harrowing and not one that I remember for the right reasons. On this particular day, I was going through the motions at work when all of a sudden I felt the onset of similar symptoms and the staff called the Ambulance Service immediately. What happened next when the paramedics arrived is the reason for my email.

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the paramedics that made me feel safe whilst reliving one of the more scary moments of my life, they were extremely compassionate, professional and quick to act when called upon.

I was amazed and very appreciative of these young ladies work that day and I hope that this message reaches them so they know that I will never forget the good work that they did under difficult circumstances

Apologies for the extended delay in writing, but I wanted to try and add a personal touch by finding the names of the paramedics and have not managed to do so

Thank you and all the best
Smilja P

Dear Sir/Madam,

On Monday night, 2 February 2009, my daughter was transported from the Piazza Medical Centre at Castle Hill to Westmead Hospital. I just wanted to thank the paramedics from Castle Hill Station for looking after us while getting to the hospital and while we were at Westmead Hospital as the waiting time was extensive.

They were wonderful to us and their professionalism and courtesy helped me to stay calm in a difficult situation.

Please pass on my thanks to both of them.

Kind regards,
Karen H

On Monday 20 April at approximately 4.15pm, my mother called Triple Zero (000) to request an ambulance for my father who she thought may be having a heart attack. Two paramedics arrived very quickly and attended to Dad and then they called for additional help and two more paramedics arrived soon after.

The care given to Dad by your people was outstanding, not only were they professional, knowledgeable, calm and efficient but they treated Dad with respect and allowed him to maintain his dignity in a very difficult situation. Mum said the teamwork was amazing and she said that she immediately felt that Dad could not be in any better hands.

I wish I knew the names of the paramedics so we could thank them personally, but I hope you can assist me by passing on our heartfelt thanks. We fully realise that without your paramedics and the excellent care given by Mona Vale Hospital Emergency that Dad would not be with us today.

NSW Ambulance Service should be very proud of their employees - they are a credit to themselves and the Service.

With thanks and regards
Beth M

PS. I dropped morning tea off at Mona Vale Emergency Department in the hope that the paramedics that helped Dad get sent there today - I know it's a long shot but I didn't know how else to find them.

I would just like to say a big thank you to the paramedics who helped me recently.

I took ill at Castle Towers Shopping Centre on Saturday 16 May 2009. I was taken to the medical centre in the Piazza. An ambulance was called as I was in extreme pain in the midriff area. All were concerned that I may have had a heart problem. A paramedic arrived before the ambulance, he did an ECG on me and suggested that I go to hospital for further tests, as a heart problem could not be fully ruled out.

Paramedics Rick and Steve arrived and transported me to the Hills Private Hospital. They were so very helpful and so very nice. They made me feel so much ‘better’ as I was quite frightened by what I was experiencing. They stayed with me at the hospital until I was admitted, talking and just making me feel at ease.

Please pass on my thanks to these three guys, they do such a wonderful service, I will be forever grateful for what they did for me.

The good news is, I did not have a heart problem, all is fine there! I was admitted to the hospital and after tests my gallbladder was removed.

Yours sincerely,
Pamela P

Hi,

I'm the major carer for my 92 year old mother. Over the past two years she has been transported to hospital at least six times or maybe more. I have realised recently that not enough people commend the Ambulance Service and its officers.

My mother has always been treated with dignity, courtesy, kindness and efficiency. She felt immediately comforted by the actions of the officers concerned. On occasions it has been a life or death situation and she has immediately felt at ease with their attitude.

On three occasions I was overjoyed to know that the ambulance officers helping my mother were known to me. One of them, Nathan M, went to school many years ago with my son. Nathan was so compassionate and caring it made a huge difference with my mother's age, heart condition and lung complications. He went out of his way (or maybe this is just how they operate) to follow up her condition at Ryde Hospital and relay to me in the waiting room her condition.

Lately I have realised not enough is said on these trying occasions to give these wonderful people the praise they deserve. I hope you will follow this up with acknoweldging my gratitude to their wonderful treatment of my mother.

Thank you,
Diane B

To whom it may concern,

I fell off my motorcycle and broke my leg around midday on Sunday 24 May near Mount Werong in the Blue Mountains National Park. A 4WD ambulance from Oberon attended first and was closely followed by a helicopter team. Unfortunately I’m not sure of the names of the paramedics and I just wanted to let them know how grateful I am for the way they helped me. They were all very professional and I felt very well cared for.

Thank you all so much. I’m well on the mend thanks to the expert attention I received on the scene and during transport. I realise how lucky I am to have such great and dedicated people come so quickly to help me when I needed it.

Many thanks
Aidan K

To whom it may concern,

On Thursday 29 May 2009 my family called the Ambulance Service to assist my mother at Werrington, after she had a fall and we could not move her.

The ambulance arrived and two paramedics by the name of Ben and Andrew went straight in to treating her. My mother is a very big woman and has issues with men doctors/physicians etc treating her, after being a rape victim in her youth, but Ben took the lead in conversing with her and putting her mind at ease that they were there to help her. Andrew set her straight and told her that even though they couldn't fit her into their ambulance that they will call a bigger one to come pick her up but stay with her until it arrives.

I have never seen my mother open up about her ailments to anyone outside our family like she did with Ben and Andrew. They made her completely comfortable and which in turn put myself and her other children's minds at ease. They waited out the hour with us until the bigger ambulance arrived and then went about with the help of four other paramedics in getting my mother into a wheelchair and into the ambulance. They then followed us to Nepean Hospital and waited until my mother was seen to and then wished her all the best when they finally left.

We, her family, have been trying to get my mother in to the hospital for the last year and with not much luck at all. These two paramedics made her feel that comfortable and at ease that she finally put her trust into someone outside our family, and did the best thing she could do for herself.

Our sincerest appreciation, thanks and gratitude goes out to Ben and Andrew for their great work. They did a fantastic job and we will for always be grateful to them for all they did for my mum. I think all the paramedics do a great job but thank god for Ben and Andrew on this day, they were very professional but still showed they cared.

Could you please pass on our thanks and let them know that mum is doing much better all thanks to them.

Sincerely,
Tonia R

To whom it may concern,

I was involved in an accident on the M4 near Penrith on 6 February 2009. I was standing in front of a car which was in the breakdown lane. Another car hit this car from behind. I was knocked unconscious and remember waking up not knowing what had happened. I was in pain, shock and very confused and did not know where I was. I wish to thank the paramedics who treated me and explained what had happened and that I was in the back of an ambulance. I remember him being calm and reassuring in the way he spoke while treating me.

I wish to thank him for his professionalism and good attitude he had towards his job. He calmed me down and made me feel very safe. There were two other people who were also treated and transported by ambulance to hospital. They have also expressed their gratitude and thanks towards the paramedics who treated them.

A huge thankyou to all paramedics involved, your great work is truly appreciated.

G Schulz

Dear Sirs,

Although you may not remember me, you both transported me to St. Vincent's Hospital and I was admitted at 1.20 am on Wednesday 22 April 2009. I had been involved in a motor vehicle accident around 12.02 am and I was the passenger.

I just wanted to thank you for your attentiveness and kindness. I know I didn't sustain any serious injuries but you still treated me with utmost care and took the situation very seriously so I'm very appreciative of that. Additionally, I'm grateful that you both attended to all my needs and showed more compassion and respect towards me. Thanks for being so reassuring and patient with me. I respect you both.

Regards,
Rebecca H

Dear Sir or Madam,

It is with great pride towards our Ambulance Service that I write my letter of praise. On 7 April 2009, two fantastic paramedics had been dispatched to my parent’s home to attend to my mother who was struggling to breath. After a phone call from Dad, I arrived at their home to see these fine men already at work.

These men displayed great empathy towards Mum as they carried out their duties with the utmost care and professionalism, whilst reassuring both Mum and Dad she was not burdening them. To many times people leave placing that important call to Triple Zero, as they feel they are only suffering a mild case of something that can wait till the morning and placing their lives in danger. Mum is a very shy person and often puts herself in that boat as she did on this occasion, thinking more of the needs of others and not her. Because of this, Mum was reluctant to be truthful about how she felt, but the paramedics obviously picked up on this and using their gentle and calming skills, soon had the situation in hand.

Thank you guys for a job well done and so very much appreciated. Mum is recovering well and Dad is so ever great full that his wife of 57 years is still with him. I trust this letter reaches you even though I did not obtain your names at the time and will help you see just how much you are thought of and without a doubt, one of, if not, the most trusted people we are lucky enough to have in our society.

Best wishes and sincere regards
Anne C

Just a quick note to thank Dale and his partner (whose name escapes me and for this I apologise) for their care, professionalism, due diligence and patience whilst attending to my 71 year old fathers care and treatment as a result of a fall he had whilst gardening.

My father is a man of few words and very reserved at the best of time. Nevertheless the subject paramedics managed to engage in conversations (whilst I am sure it was difficult at times due to language barriers) with my father during the course of their high level of care, treatment and transportation of my father to hospital.

I commend them highly. They are a true asset to your organisation and the public.

Please pass on my gratitude.

Hi,

My name is Leanne and I come from Quakers Hill. I would like to thank the people involved in assisting me with my 20 month old daughter this morning. I called around 9am. My daughter and I were lying down and I noticed dribble come out from the corner of her mouth, her eyes turned up. She did not respond to me so I picked her up and she was floppy. I carried her into the lounge room, grabbed the phone and placed her on the floor on her side. I noticed her mouth area going purple and she was having problems breathing. My husband was out and I was panicked and upset when I called Triple Zero (000) and the lady I spoke to called me down to get the information she needed. She stayed on the phone with me and talked me through what was happening and guiding me of what to do. My daughter was having some sort of seizure. She stayed on the phone with me, offering to stay on the line until the ambulance arrived. I had settled, and Maddy had come to however she was very drained. I was comfortable telling the operator to go and save more people and two ambulances arrived within a minute of me hanging up.

The two officers that stayed with me were extremely thorough and reassuring that Maddy was OK. They felt that she had what they call a ‘Febrile Convulsion’ which occurs when your temperature shoots up high, very quickly. This was later confirmed to me by a doctor at the hospital. They took us to hospital as Maddy’s temperature was very high. They were pleasant and very reassuring during the trip to hospital. My panic and worry were soon taken over by laughs on the way to the hospital.

I hope this letter funds all three of them well. To the paramedic on the phone, I thank you for calming me down and helping me through this extremely scary moment in my life. Watching my daughter through an episode like this, unexpected was very traumatic and you reassured me and made me feel secure and reassured in the situation. To the two paramedics, watching you walk through the front door was like a breath of fresh air. Your reassurance, care and support to both me and my daughter Maddy were greatly appreciated. You were helpful from the moment you arrived and also gave me a great laugh on the way to the hospital.

The Ambulance Service and Triple Zero (000) should be extremely grateful to have you on their team. It didn’t feel like any of you were doing a job today, it felt like you were doing something you loved, helping people. If our services are full of people like you, then we have a perfect emergency teams.

Thanking you
Leanne and Maddy C

To whom it may concern

I would be grateful if the following message can be passed on to the relevant paramedics.

I would like to express my gratitude to the two paramedics that picked me up from Randwick Fire Station on Thursday 19 March around 6.30 in the morning.

I had earlier collapsed in a park nearby with acute hypogastric pain. The firemen from Randwick Fire Station came to my assistance and called for an ambulance. The paramedics were kind, attentive and thorough in their care and assistance which made the whole ordeal so much more bearable. Thanks to them, the terrible pain I was in was alleviated very quickly.

With best wishes,

Lisa M

We wanted to thank the two wonderful ambos who were called out to our home in Neutral Bay on Wednesday 25 March 2009 after our son suffered from a seizure.

We both had different experiences from the terrifying visual and uncertainty of witnessing our son’s convulsion or the heart stopping race home from work knowing the ambulance had been called but we are united in our overwhelming thanks and praise for the two very professional, calming and practical ambos that walked through the front door. In the chaos of the moment our immediate concern was for our son and the level of care provided to him by the ambos was, simply put, first class. From the locking up of the house to the special attention giving to calming a very frantic dad we can not thank you enough for ensuring the immediate safety of our son.

We can imagine that our overwhelming feelings of thanks and relief would be replicated by parents and loved ones all over the state every day but for us right now… you two guys sit on top of a very talented bunch but sadly we can not recall your names.

Thank you and we hope never to see you again........under those circumstances.

Tim and Alanna A

On 2 April 2009, we believed that our 2 ½ year old son may have been bitten by a funnel web spider. We called an ambulance to our place in Dural. Luckily for our son and the rest of the family, the spider was not a funnel web, but an eastern mouse spider and it appears that our son was not actually bitten.

We would like to thank the Ambulance Service and in particular the paramedics that helped us for their quick response and the care and consideration that they gave us. They were well prepared for the situation and if it wasn’t a false alarm we feel that our son would have been in the best of care. Even though he did not show symptoms, all precautions were taken in case the situation changed. We felt guilty for the use of services, when it ended up being a false alarm and would like to thank the paramedics for assuring us that we did the right thing, rather than making us feel like over-reacting parents.

We are so lucky to have the services that are available to us in this country.

Thank you,
Amy and Richard R

Thank you to the crew that attended my motorcycle prang for prompt arrival and professional service.

Although my injuries were trivial I'm very grateful for the reassurance of being attended by very competent professionals at a time of need and for the personable, kind and attentive attitude. It’s a very good job that you did for me and are doing for the community – thank you so much

Cheers,

Ambulance Service of NSW

Dear Sir,

On behalf of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, I would like to thank the Ambulance Service of NSW for their support and resources provided for the staging of Australia's Big Bash and the Sound Relief concert.

The services provided by the Ambulance Service of NSW greatly assisted in the successful staging of both events and raising a significant amount of funds for both the Victorian bushfires and the Queensland floods.

Once again thank you for your support

Kind regards
Shane Fuller

Thanks for life-saving efforts

I need to thank the State Emergency Services and NSW Police Force for saving my life after I was lost during a bushwalk in the Royal National Park on 17 March.

Thanks are also given to the Ambulance Service of NSW and Sutherland Hospital for giving me medical treatment to my cuts and wounds.

I deeply appreciate your friendliness and professionalism.

On Thursday 5 March an ambulance responded to my 83 year old mother at Sadlier, who had heavy bleeding from head surgery earlier that day. Whilst I was not present, my brother commented several times about the timely response and professional conduct. After having taken her to Liverpool Hospital they returned later (after another job) to check on her condition. Thank you so much.

My mother went on to receive 4 units of blood and was very lucky indeed that the ambos recognised the urgency of the situation. The paramedics applied pressure for 30 minutes and knew she was in trouble before transporting her. They did so in such a manner as to not alarm her further. Again thank you for your assistance and caring attitude. She was discharged on Sunday 8th but does need to return for further treatment and to ascertain the cause of the bleed.

Barbara

Hi,

I wish to put forward a compliment about two paramedic officers.

On Sunday morning 15 March I made a call to Triple Zero to assist me from my residence at Summer Hill as I needed to go to hospital ASAP. I had the two most compassionate, humble paramedic officers that I never imagined to have. They were so helpful, kind and understanding and helped me so much to make sure I was okay and comfortable. I was taken to Canterbury Hospital.

Their names were Roger and Lucy. They both had so much patience and helped me in every way until a bed was ready at hospital. They both had big, beautiful, happy personalities with smiles on their faces which truly showed. They helped me as much as they could for the pain I had and made me feel as much comfortable as possible until a bed was ready for me. I can’t thank them enough for all their help. They were both angels.

Please pass a BIG thank you to them and also let their manager’s know of their great work. It’s great to know you have such nice happy spirited people to assist others when needed.

Many Thanks
Shekoufeh R

In praise of our ambos.

I would like to thank the two paramedics who transported my husband on Tuesday 24 February 2009.

After spending some hours at Mudgee Hospital Emergency Department the decision was made to transfer Colin to Bathurst for further treatment. At the time of leaving Mudgee he was extremely ill and fast getting to the point of a life threatening situation.

The two paramedics were obviously so experienced and thankfully in total control for the entire trip, keeping my husband stabilised enough to reach Bathurst.

The people of Mudgee area should be very reassured that they have such an excellent Ambulance Service available to them. This letter comes with much appreciation and thanks again to the two men involved.

Dear Sir,

I would like to take the opportunity to comment on the excellent support provided by the ambulance team who attended to my wife. It was a serious emergency and time of great stress for both Judy and I, yet your ambos displayed a quiet efficiency and empathy with our situation that ensured Judy received appropriate treatment as soon as possible. I was particularly appreciative of their willingness to involve me in the decision making process concerning the most suitable hospital to take Judy to.

Despite the initial dire predictions of the medical staff at Concord, my wife has survived and continues to fight on. I have no doubt that the efficient and expedient manner in which she received treatment both at home and on admission to Concord’s Emergency Department was an important contributing reason for her being with us today.

Unfortunately, due to my immediate concern for my wife, I did not note the ambos’ names. I would appreciate it if you could ensure my thanks are passed on to them and, importantly, that their supervisor is advised of their good work.

Yours Sincerely
Colin G

Dear Sir,

Just a short note to compliment two of your paramedics. On Wednesday 11 February, my mother-in-law (Iris) fell in her bedroom and injured her hip. After a telephone call to Triple Zero, the ambulance arrived within a very short timeframe. Your two paramedics, whose names I have not been able to remember were very professional, showed great care and were wonderfully compassionate to Iris.

This care and approach continued through the treatment at the house and transport to Ryde Hospital. The two paramedics involved are a great credit to your organisation and you have our deep appreciation for providing people of that calibre.

Yours truly
David H

To the Ambulance Service of NSW

We would like to take the opportunity to extend our gratitude and sincere thanks to Alistair and Cougar.

Alistair and Cougar were dispatched to attend our son Peter on Thursday 19 February 2009.

Both Alistair and Cougar were phenomenal - calm, helpful and a both a wonderful reassurance to us in an otherwise scary time. Our son Pete had quite a severe reaction to tahini which, thankfully, was quickly resolved within a few hours. It was the first real 'health' incident that we have had with our son and we were all quite concerned, to say the least. Both Alistair and Cougar showed genuine care, compassion and concern for Peter's wellbeing. They were efficient, informative and a wonderful assistance.

We can not thank you enough for the help Alistair and Cougar provided - they are an absolute credit to your Service and we can't praise them highly enough.

Kind regards
Jessica and Jason F

On Friday 27 Februray 2009, I was unfortunate to have had an accident at home with a chain saw. My wife rang Triple Zero asking for medical help in stopping the bleeding. A young extended care paramedic arrived and with great professional experience proceeded to clean and dress my wound. I live in Schofields, so I believed this young lady would have been from Riverstone Ambulance Station.

My wife and I would like to thank this lady and to let her know her treatment was a success with no infection and little bruising. She wrote a comprehensive report for my doctor but it was not needed.

The Riverstone Station was unattended, which is why I'm emailing to let her supervisor know what a terrific job she did. Her name is Hannah F so please pass on our thanks for a job well done. Her assured manner and professionalism was of the highest standard. A credit to any organisation.

Thank you again Cyril R

To whom it may concern,

My name is Kellie P and I live at Blacktown. I called an ambulance for myself on 22 February at about 11am. I wanted to go to hospital because I was experiencing an overwhelming anxiety attack. I have suffered agoraphobia for six years now and it is a struggle for me to leave the house. The two paramedics (one was a male and the other was a female) were the most supportive and caring officers I have ever experienced.

I did take a valium to leave the house and go to hospital, I wouldn't have made it as far as I did if it wasn't for these two officers, I do know the male officer is Brian but I'm not sure who the females was. The female officer hugged me at one stage and then talked to me all the way to Blacktown Hospital.

I want to sincerely thank the both of them from the bottom of my heart, this situation is a struggle for me and if it wasn't for the both of them I wouldn't have even made it out the door.

Thank you so much for a great experience

Kellie P

I have tried to find the names and location of the paramedics that treated me but have been told this is the way.

I was involved in a serious motor accident on Wednesday 4 March 2009 on the M4 at Silverwater.

I just wanted to thank them personally for looking after me so well. Neck and back injuries are scary anytime and have had them previously made it even scarier but they did really well in treating me and looking after me.

Many thanks to you both and I would love to catch up and shout you a beer.

Cheers
Drew

To whom it may concern.

I would like to extend a very big thankyou and congratulations on behalf of myself and my family to the paramedics who came to my father’s aid on Saturday March 7 2009 at Kareela Golf Course.

Unfortunately my father who is only aged 61 and very fit suffered a VF cardiac arrest whilst playing golf that morning. Luckily for him he was with two others who knew and were current in their resuscitation training being teachers and were able to perform good effective CPR until the arrival of the first Paramedics. Dad only needed one shock to get him back into a sinus rhythm with good output which was a great outcome but also a glowing example of how good the bystander CPR was seeing as though the down time was approx 15min! Dad is now alive and well with no neurological deficits at all in CCU and is awaiting an implantable defibrillator before being discharged home where he should make a full recovery.

I would like to personally congratulate the Intensive Care Paramedics who (with the help of the other Paramedics) had Dad stabilised with IV access, fluids, intubated and at Sutherland Hospital within 30 minutes of arrival on scene even though he went into VF again in the back of the Ambulance! They are a credit to the Service.

The other Paramedics were unfortunately not recognised however I am told that they helped keep the golf friends on scene advised as to what was happening and drove my Mum who had arrived as well to hospital and kept her informed of Dad’s progress. This highly overlooked part of a Paramedics job was greatly appreciated and I would like them to know this.

I would like to also thank the Triple Zero call taker who stayed on the phone to my Dad’s golf friends and kept them encouraged, on task doing CPR and readying for the Ambulance arrival. I have spoken personally to these two men and they appreciated (and needed) the encouragement that this call taker gave them.

I am a serving Paramedic with Ambulance Victoria in Melbourne and I know that we do this job because of the satisfaction that we get from being able to help people everyday especially when it is sometimes the worst day of their life. I can tell you that being on the ‘other side’ as a relative is a scary and worrying time so the ‘rest and reassurance’ approach to not only the patient but the family as well does indeed work and is appreciated.

Regards
Nick D

Hello,

I just wanted to thank the paramedics who looked after myself and my daughter on Saturday 7 February, 2009. At around 5pm I was bathing my daughters, one Ellie aged 2 1/2 and the other Jess aged 8 months. My husband was at the shops getting some food for tea. Jess was in a bath chair and I walked out of the room to grab a nappy to put her in to. When I walked back in Jess was on the bottom of the bath face down totally out of the seat. She was blue and had no response. I cleared her mouth and put her on her side and hit her back. Then ran downstairs and rang Triple Zero. I stayed with Jess and put the phone on speaker. I gave Jess a breath and slowly she was responding. I then put her on her side, she vomitted up lots of water and by this stage she was screaming and back to life.

It was a few minutes later the paramedics arrived and I think their names were Warwick and Phil. They were fantastic. Not just with Jess but with myself, my husband and my other girl Ellie. It's times like these that you need compassion and reassurance and these men - well I just can't thank them enough. They informed me every step of the way what they were doing, why they were doing it etc. Please can you thank them again for me. They are a credit to the Ambulance Service.

Also can you thanks the lady I spoke to at Triple Zero. She kept me calm and reassured me and rang me back when I accidently hung up on her!

Jess spent the night in hospital as a precaution, but suffered no deficit and needs no follow up. I know I should not have left my daughters unattended, no matter how safe I thought Jess was. And this is something I will live with forever. And it really does only take a few seconds for disaster to strike around water. Anyway, the good thing to come out of this is I am making sure all of my friends and family go and do their first aid course.

Thanks
Samantha K

Judging by your other thank you letters to paramedics this maybe an odd one as it wasn’t a happy ending.

Back on Monday, 19 May 2008 at approximately 4pm there was an explosion at my parent’s home at Dural – the call was originally placed to Triple Zero by my Mum who reported the tractor had exploded whilst my Dad was mowing the lawn and he was injured.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the paramedics that were involved with looking after Dad during this time and stabilising him enough to get him to hospital although he had gone into cardiac arrest a couple of times. They kept Dad stabilised enough for Mum to talk to him the whole time but at the same time she got to say her goodbye to him as she was told that it didn’t look good – I’m just so pleased that they didn’t let him go while Mum was there as this would’ve made it 5 times as hard for her now.
They did an awesome job and in such a small confined space and they also assisted with keeping Mum as calm as possible. They managed to get him to hospital and into surgery – he made it up to ICU – however couldn’t hold on – we were informed of this at approximate 11pm that night after a good 3.5 hours in theatre – we were initially told that he would be in surgery for about an hour so we knew he fought all the way – he was a strong bugger!!

I know this thank you is now 9 months overdue, however the whole incident hasn’t gone away and we are all trying to cope as well as we can possibly do so but I knew I had to say thank you to all of those involved. They did the best they could and all they could for Dad and that is very much appreciated by all our family members.

All I can say to all of the paramedics – that your job does go unrecognised a lot but just to keep it up the good work because you help 1000’s and 1000’s of people every year (if not more) and if it wasn’t for you guys there would be a lot more heartache in this world.

Keep up the good work you are all legends!

Kind regards,
Nicky L

I would like to extend my appreciation to the three paramedics who attend my mother at Kingsgrove on Friday 9 January 2009.

My 87 year mother fell in the shower and dislocated her hip and had badly lacerated her leg and arm. She managed to crawl to the phone and called Triple Zero (000). I was also notified but was at least 20 minutes away. The three paramedics arrived but were unable to enter the locked home – they also called me whilst I was in transit and informed me that they had talked with my mother and reassured her that everything was under control and they would get to her shortly.

Upon entering the home the paramedics did an exemplary job in attending to my mother’s physical and emotional needs during this time. They informed us of what they were doing at all times and were continually checking on my mother’s well being. They all we mindful of the surroundings and cleaned up everything before they left – including the repositioning back to their original position of the garden pots that were required to be relocated from the front door entrance so that the stretcher could be maneuvered out the door.

They took her to the next available hospital (St George) and were there for some time on other work – but were kind enough to re-visit my mother and to enquire about her condition – this was much appreciated and reassuring during this time.

Again my sincere thanks to these three people who have restored both mine and my mother’s faith in the kindness of our fellow people. My thanks to these three people – they are a credit to your organisation and are indeed kind and thoughtful people who will always have our enduring appreciation for their work.

Regards,
Lindsay H

Hi,

We just want to pass on our deepest thank you to the paramedics that arrived when our daughter Tracey’s heart stopped on Monday 19 January. We do know they arrived at IG Autos in Blaxland shortly after being notified and managed to restart her heart and took her to Nepean Hospital, I think the time was around 1430.

Can you also let them know that Tracey is making a full recovery and would also like to pass on her kindest regards.

Once again thank you very much for giving us our daughter back

Hi
On Christmas Day, I had an accident and hurt my head and neck. We called an ambulance and were attended by officers from Ashford Ambulance Station. Two male officers (I remember Jason's name, but must apologise for not remembering the other gentleman, sorry) initially attended and loaded me onto the bus. We were met by Sue, a third officer en route and they transported me to Inverell Hospital.

On 8 January while seeing a GP in Inverell, I received further news re my injury that required ambulance transport to Inverell Hospital once again. This time officers from Inverell Ambulance Station attended. Despite some tricky manoeuvrings in the doctor's surgery, they managed to get me out and up to the hospital! I think one (or perhaps even two) of the officers may have been named Neil, but again, I must apologise for not recalling everyone's name. I believe there were actually four officers in attendance at one point.

I did not have a chance or the presence of mind on either of those occasions to express my gratitude but I would like to redress that now. I am extremely grateful for the kindness, the reassurance and the superior professional care provided to me by all officers. On each occasion I was pretty scared and worried (understatement!) and without making promises that they could not keep, they were extremely reassuring, down to earth and above all, delivering a superior standard of care. I was unable to contact the stations by telephone but would appreciate if my email could be passed on please.

One again, thanks so much
Rachel M

I would like to thank the paramedic who attended an accident at Barrawarn Place in Castle Hill. Unfortunately, we did not get his name.

A neighbour and friend was out for her daily walk when she had a nasty fall outside our home, hit her head, split her eyebrow and lost a considerable amount of blood. Fay is not young anymore and the incident was undoubtedly very traumatic.

We cannot speak too highly of the professional, prompt, considerate and gracious attention that the paramedic gave her. He quietly and carefully attended to her injuries while ever so gently allowing her to agree to go to Blacktown Hospital rather than home. We have no doubt that, with Fay’s very high blood pressure, and the trauma of the fall, going to hospital was absolutely the right thing to do.

We are pleased to report that Fay came home later in the day, a little the worse for wear, but undoubtedly much better off for the attention from your paramedic.

Well done ‘Ambos’!

Otto H

I write in search of Bill and Ted.

On 11 November 2008, I managed to get run over by a car at Gardeners Road, Alexandra and an ambulance was called to my rescue.

While its been over two months since my accident, my inner voice persists to nag me day in and day out: ‘You must remember to thank Bill and Ted’. Today my inner voice prevails and I write to request that you locate Bill and Ted to pass on a giant hug and a huge ‘thank you’ for keeping my spirits up during my journey to the hospital.

I call them Bill and Ted because I don’t recall their names, only that for some insane reason I referred to them on the day as Bill and Ted. However, what I do remember is how fantastic they both were to me and I know deep down in my heart that anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to dial 000 would be extremely lucky to have the two of them come to their rescue.

I would be eternally grateful if you could please locate them and pass on my thanks.

Kind regards,
Fabiana R

Dear Paramedics,

On 17 December 2008, at about 9.30 pm, two paramedics attended to a call regarding a woman who fainted at a restaurant on Lime Street, King Street Wharf. Their names are Janice and Alex.

I wish to record my profound gratitude to them for their professionalism and friendly manner which helped put me at ease. I have never experience fainting before.

There was also a volunteer or off-duty paramedic dining with friends in the restaurant that day who came to my aid and in a calm voice said, "Are you ok? I'm a paramedic. You've just fainted." I was too embarrassed to ask his name and thought I'd make a quick escape to the restroom only to collapse again before reaching it.

Thanks to them, I am now confident that should I ever require ambulance services again, I will be in good hands!

My mother was attended to by four paramedics when she called Triple Zero (000) on 1 December 2008 after experiencing a mild stroke. She was babysitting my children at the time of making the call and when the paramedics arrived.

I was naturally extremely shocked to arrive home to such an unexpected and frightening situation. The paramedic who greeted me in the street provided me with immediate reassurance that my mother was safe as were my children. I was provided with a clear explanation of the events that had occurred in my absence and given an explanation of what would be likely to occur upon my mother’s arrival to Prince of Wales Hospital. I felt that I knew what to expect in the time between her leaving my house and being able to see her at hospital. This was also immensely reassuring having this information.

Due to the professionalism and empathy of the staff in attendance, I was confident my mother was receiving excellent care. I was also greatly impressed and relieved by the staffs attention to my children who were both calm and not frightened by the time I arrived home.

Due to the chaos at the time I did not ask for the names of the paramedics. I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all of them for the wonderful care they provided to my mother as well as their attention to the well being my children and myself.

I was thoroughly impressed by the service provided and commend the men involved for doing such a brilliant job.

Sincerely,
Wendy F

On Saturday 13 December, around 5.45 – 6pm, my 86 year old mother had cause to call for an ambulance to take her from Rydalmere to Westmead Hospital. On behalf of her, myself and my wife we would like you to pass on our many thanks to the paramedics in attendance for their care and thoughtfulness. I can’t speak more highly of the manner in which both the attending paramedics and the other officers on duty at Westmead Hospital cared for my mother and also other patients waiting for beds in the emergency ward.

A big thank you and we wish you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS & PROSPEROUS 2009

Helen, Yvonne and Wilson R

We have had to avail ourselves of the services of the ambulance paramedics too often for our liking over the last couple of years, and each time, to acknowledge the superb service and assistance they have offered us. I have communicated with the local Lithgow station to offer our thanks. This is an opportunity to spread our thanks so these people are more widely acknowledged.

Recently my wife fell when getting out of bed and broke both tibia and fibula in her left leg. I didn't know what had broken, just heard the crack.

We called the Ambulance to our home at Wallerawang and the vehicle arrived within 15 minutes. The crew took one look and called for backup, and the two couples manning those vehicles worked on Margaret for some time before taking her to hospital. They re-assured her, they re-assured and comforted me, and offered us magnificent support. It’s great to say that there was nothing unusual in this response and help, as I said, we've been supported before by Ambulance and always have the same efficient friendly support.

Our sincere thanks to those wonderful folk.

Dear Sir/Madam

On 27 November 2008, while driving between Wagga Wagga and Albury, I unfortunately became ill and suffered a heart attack unexpectedly. I rang 000 while in a great deal of pain and not knowing the location and area that well the person on the end of the line was calm, professional and patient and within 20 minutes your ambulance arrived to treat me and transport me to the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

Your paramedics did a fantastic job in treating my condition and stabilising me until I arrived at the Hospital. Their cool, calm, professional caring manner and knowledge of what to do in this situation probably saved my life or at least reduced the long term effects of the heart attack by their swift actions.

Thank you once again for the wonderful service that you provide to people everyday all over the state of New South Wales. I’m recuperating well and hope I don't require your services again in the future.

You should feel proud of the wonderful work you do.

Kind Regards
Ross D

To whom it may concern,

We’d like to pass on our sincerest appreciation and thanks to the two ambulance crews and the triple zero operator who helped our daughter to be born. Our apologies that this letter of thanks is six months overdue but life has been a little crazy.

I had gone into labour on the 24 April 2008 and we were waiting for a friend to arrive to look after our toddler before going to hospital. We thought we had plenty of time. However at about 6am we called ‘000’ because we thought something was wrong with the way the labour was progressing. Little did we guess that our daughter would be delivered 15 minutes later by her dad with the guidance of ‘000’. The ambulance team arrived just after the baby was born and assisted with the end stage of labour and ensured that we were all well.

Once again please pass on our thanks to the ‘000’ operator, without their calm instructions we don’t like to think about what could have happened, and the ambulance crew who provided the reassuringly physical presence of kind medical professionals .

Kind regards
Natalia & Travis H

To whom it may concern

I am writing on behalf of my parents to say thank you for the fantastic service and support offered to them from your officers during the past weeks.

My mother was transferred on 22 November 2008 in the early evening to RPA Hospital. My father stated he was impressed with the support given to him during this stressful time.

On Thursday 4December 2008, my mother required transport to RPA Hospital from Balmain Hospital and return for an investigation. Once again your officers offered my parents, especially my father, support and kindness.

My parents are in the mid 80’s and often require extra support.

Thank you again

Hi,
Recently my family and I were involved in a car accident on the Princess Highway.

Thankfully no one was seriously injured. The other driver involved phoned the police and because they were aware that children were involved applied good sense and called an ambulance.

I do not know the names of the paramedics. It was a woman and a gentleman. They took my kids to St George Hospital as a precaution. They were absolutely wonderful from the time they got to the accident site right up until they escorted my family to the Paediatrics unit at St George Hospital.

I just wanted to extend my appreciation for all their care and effort they showed. They were exemplary. I did not at the time think to get their names as I had other things on my mind but I wish I had the time to thank them personally again.

Please try and track them down and express my gratitude on a job very well done. They won my kids over right away and that is no mean feat. Also if this message could get around to their superiors so they are aware what a fine team of paramedics these two extraordinary people are.

Regards
Jose C

Thank a Paramedic Day

Dear paramedics,

I heard this morning that it was "Thank a Paramedic Day" so wanted to do just that. The Ambulance Service is always excellent but two years ago they were exceptionaly kind to my family and I want to say thank you even though the event took place in a different town.

My sister was at home dying of cancer and my elderly mum was in the local hospital and awaiting transfer by ambulance to a larger town for an operation. My sister was not well enough to visit mum at the hospital. This was causing great stress for both of them. When the paramedics learnt of the situation they stopped outside my sister's house so the two could meet. There on the footpath, thanks to these kind and compassionate paramedics, my sister and mum were afforded the privilege of saying goodbye. My sister died about two weeks later and my mum is celebrating her 90th birthday on 20 December 2008.

As a family we have often spoke of the comfort and consolation that the roadside farewell bought to us all but we have never said THANK YOU to those who made it possible. Today I wish to express our gratitude to you wonderful people at Lithgow Ambulance Station as delegates of all paramedics in the Service. You are wonderful professionals with compassionate hearts and minds.

May God continue to bless each of you as you go about your errands of mercy and service.

Yours sincerely
Christina A

Dear Sir,

Re: Wonderful Service – Thankyou

I would like to personally thank two ambulance paramedics who came to my support to save my life. They provided a wonderful service at such n extremely high professional standard.

To show my appreciation to your two officers and to your supporting Ambulance Service of NSW, I am enclosing a donation of $1,000.

Your sincerely,

Robert F

PS Please provide a copy of this letter to the two officers.

Easing pressure on our hospitals

You may not know this yet but there is a new ambulance service out now. It enables paramedics to come out to your home and help you, so we are not occupying hospital beds. It’s great for people like me who are not able to get around a lot. It also takes the pressure of hospitals.

If you think you need extended care by paramedic staff, call Triple Zero and they will know.

I wish to thank them for the help they gave me recently. It was all done at home. I did not have to tie up a hospital bed.

I wish to thank the Ambulance Service of NSW for they are overworked and underpaid for what they do. Well done.

First-class carer

I would like to publicly compliment the Wollongong Ambulance and paramedics and Wollongong Hospital Resuscitation and Emergency Department.

Last Thursday I fell heavily on my head and neck and the quick care and treatment was excellent.

So many people complain about these services, but for me I found only great expertise.

Hi,

I would just like to say thank you to all the paramedics, especially after seeing my mother being treated and taken to hospital after fracturing her ankle and possibly her shoulder. Unfortunately, in the hectic morning I did not catch the name of the man and woman officer who attended our residence in Zanco Road at Marsfield and took us to the Ryde Hospital in Sydney. They were not just doing their job, I thought their professional treatment and reassuring the family of the situation was beyond expecations. Also their kindness and going out of their way to explain what's happening were very much appreciated.

We thank you sincerely again

Kind Regards
John S

To whom it may concern,

I just wanted to write and thank the two lovely paramedics who took me to RPA recently. I don't think paramedics get the recognition and thanks they deserve and I just wanted to thank Tony and Rohan for their professionalism, caring attitude and for making me feel safe and relaxed. Thank goodness you guys are out there doing what you do!

Kind regards,
Sonia B

Ambulance Officers
Campsie Ambulance Station.

Dear Michelle & Lyndell,

I would like to thank you both for your sincere and professional manner in which you took care of me after my bicycle accident with a taxi recently. Its was a very enjoyable ride to RPA indeed ! Both of you gals are legends and are worthy of full commendations! As we suspected my heel bone is broken... Keep up the good work and those great smiles.

Best wishes and much thanks.

Dear Sir / Madam,

On Tuesday 29 July, 2008 Blacktown South Public School had reason to call an ambulance for an injured student. Being one of the first aid officers at the school, I was with the injured boy when the paramedics arrived.

I was very impressed with their professionalism, caring, knowledge and overall handling of the situation. I unfortunately don’t know both the officers names, one of them was Felicity. The other female officer appeared to be “be in charge” and did so in a manner that she instilled calmness with the patient and those who were also at the scene.

If it is at all possible, I would like both of these officers to know that they left a very lasting impression on me and others here at school because of their actions.

Yours Faithfully,
C D

To the Ambulance Service of NSW

Thank you all very much for the service rendered to my husband during his recent illness. The prompt arrival and his transport to Tweed Hospital was greatly appreciated by us both.

Again, thank you all

To the Ambulance Service of NSW

My name is Christianne C and I would would like to express my gratitude to four paramedics. At approximately midnight on 13 September 2008 at an address in Randwick, a call was made for an ambulance as my grandmother Irene was complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. My father Ross attended to my grandmother whilst awaiting help and followed the instructions of the operator in which he is also so grateful. My grandmother had seized and stopped breathing. Thanks to the clear instructions of the operator my father commenced CPR in an attempt to preserve her life.

Two ambulances arrived quickly and paramedics were quick to take over from my father. It was evident that the situation was serious and that as a result of the severity of my grandmothers condition there was little hope. Despite the statistics of a poor success rate the paramedics went above and beyond to bring her back. After working on my grandmother for about half an hour they transported her to the Prince of Wales Hospital where she passed the following day of a severe heart attack.

My family and my self are eternally grateful to the effort and persistence of these four paramedics. I would also like to thank the paramedic Angela who was very honest yet compassionate when explaining the situation to me so I could tell my family what was happening. Although my grandmother passed every effort was made to save her. To the four paramedics, emergency operator and hospital staff thank you

Kind Regards,
The C and P families

Dear Sir

On Friday 19 September 2008, two paramedic attached to I believe your Marrickville Station transported my terminally ill father to Calvary Hospital at Kogarah. I wish to acknowledge the great compassion and care that these two young men had for my father. Dad appreciates their efforts and on behalf of my family I thank these two professionals for the dignified service that they provided. As in the past, we are very proud of our NSW Ambulance Service

To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Scott McD. On 19 May 2008 I was involved in a motor vehicle accident at Chester Hill where the motorcycle I was riding colided with a semi-trailer. I'm writing to thank you for saving my life, I cannot thank you all enough. And although I cannot remember meeting you (as I was unconcious at the time), I would like you both to know that I am extremely greatful for the wonderful job you perform and I'm forever indebted to you. I'm hoping that if we meet again it's under better circumstances.

S McD.

Dear Judith,

You probably won’t remember me but you answered my Triple Zero call at about 1.15am on 30 July 2008. I would like to thank you for your support to me at the darkest time of my life. Your presence on the end of the phone was so helpful. It’s good to know the Service is so efficient. Yes, my husband died from a subarachnoid haemorrhage, so even if I could have reached him there was nothing I could do. Once again, thank you. I will never forget your kindness.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Almost three months ago, during the night of 10 June 2008. I needed the Ambulance Service of NSW at my home in Marsfield. – I did indeed require your SERVICE. My neighbours who stayed in our Unit until I was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital were ”full of praise for you all”.

I have been told of your great care displayed, the concern for my comfort and your gentleness during a rather demanding situation. I was mostly unaware of the happenings of the night. Please pass on my warmest thanks to the two ambulance crews.

Very Sincerely,
P R

To Whom It May Concern

I'm hoping that you may be able to help me. On 7 December 2007 I called an ambulance to my property at Pampoolah (near Taree), because I believed my husband was suffering a heart attack.

My husband indeed suffered a massive heart attack and sadly nothing could be done to help him and he passed away after being taken to Taree Hospital.

I want to say thank you so much to all of the paramedics involved and also the Triple Zero operator who assisted us with giving the correct CPR and also the encouragement to keep going. As you are aware in circumstances like this there is quite a bit of confusion and fear. I was extremely scared during the whole situation and so relieved when the Ambulance/s arrived. Indeed they have the expertise to help someone in such a bad way.

Richard was only 40 when he passed away (two days after his 40th birthday to be exact) and he left behind myself and our two children aged only 9 and 12. We never saw his heart attack coming.

I will never forget the compassion, kindness and understanding the paramedics showed, especially at a time when it was difficult for us all. I know "our" Richard was gone before help got to him, but we all did our best including you guys. I also know that you guys knew there was nothing that could be done for him, however you showed him, and us, the dignity to put him in the ambulance and took him away to die peacefully - and for that I say thankyou!

Richard had spent the whole of last year looking forward to his 40th birthday and he played with many ideas of how he would like to spend his birthday. In the end, Richard said he didn't care what he did as long as it was "adrenaline" packed!!! - How ironic was that considering how much adrenaline you guys had to give him. (He would see the absolute humour of that!)

Thankyou so much, each and every one of you guys who helped us. I know you all did your best and for that I'm grateful. My children now know who the real hero's of the World are, and I can guarantee you that they no longer look up to "idols".

I wish you all a happy, healthy and beautiful future.

Thanking you so much
D family

The Manager

Dear Sir,

I was admitted to Prince of Wales Hospital (POW) Emergency Unit on Friday 29 August 2008 by Ambulance following chest pain and advice from my GP to call an ambulance. The ambulance No 972 arrived at my home approximately 10 minutes later in the very capable hands of Giles and Tim. I was in POW within a half hour of my call for assistance. Fabulous!!!

I cannot speak too highly of the efficiency compassion and courtesy of Giles and Tim. My care at Emergency was most satisfactory and I have written separately to the Hospital. I just feel lucky to have been born in a country where such wonderful services are provided. What service would have got if my birth had happened in Zimbabwe? I shudder to think. Most grateful appreciation to your service.

Yours Sincerely,
H N

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Nada P. I had an accident on the 21st September at Davidson. There was an Ambulance Officer of duty, visiting her parents; her name was Simone.

Once Simone heard the accident, she came out quicker than I could blink. She was the most wonderful person you could imagine, not just for me, but for all involved in the accident – Like God had sent an angel from Heaven!

Then the Ambulance arrived on the scene & they were just as wonderful. I would like to thank you all, and God Bless you all.
