Applicants with no prior experience
The role of a paramedic is a personally rewarding and highly respected profession. It is also a progressive career that offers opportunities for advancement and ongoing professional development.
- Applicants with no prior medical experience are offered education and training at our on-site Ambulance Education Centre following by practical on-road training. Successful graduates are awarded a nationally recognised Diploma qualification.

Applicants with experience within the health system
- Prior experience within the health system may entitle an applicant to a shorter training program and a higher initial rate of pay for example, registered nurses with 12 months experience in an acute care setting in a large hospital may commence on the base salary of $49, 382 (plus additional penalty rates) and become fully qualified Paramedics after 41 weeks of Paramedic training.
- Recognition of the abilities, qualifications and experience of Patient Transport Officers and Honorary Ambulance Officers are also considered when applying for a position as a Trainee Paramedic.
- Trainee Paramedics are recruited throughout the year for regular training intakes. The selection process is highly competitive and generally takes four months or less to complete, however, if there is a higher than normal response it can take up to twelve months.
