Presentation of awards for Sydney Division
On Tuesday 1 April 2008, staff from Sydney Division were presented with awards for their conduct and service to the community.
In the first Sydney medal ceremony for 2008, ambulance officers and patient transport officers, both past and present, received the National Medal, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (LS&GC) and the State Medal.
The official party included Superintendents Peter Payne, Tony Gately, Mark Beesley, Ken Wheeler and Acting Superintendent Keith Smith, with Acting District Officer Joel Bardsley as Master of Ceremonies.
Retired Intensive Care Paramedic/ District Officer John Hall addressed the officers, family and friends, and reminisced with an overview of progression of Ambulance during his long and distinguished career.
Retired Ambulance Officer Richard (Dick) Smith, who joined Ambulance in 1974, attended the ceremony and was presented with his LS&GC medal from his brother, Acting Superintendent Keith Smith. Keith commented on how he was honoured to present Dick with his award which gave him great satisfaction to see his brother continuing to do well after his retirement in 2001.
Retired Ambulance Officer Michael Botfield also attended the ceremony and received the LS&GC medal clasps for 30 years of service.

The event was enjoyed by more than 65 ambulance officers, patient transport officers, their family and friends. Congratulations and thanks to all officers and retirees for their years of service, and thank you to all whom attendant the awards ceremony.
