Ambulance staff receive Rotary awards
The following articles have recently appeared in suburban newspapers.
Nod to a tireless helper
Paramedic Chris Henning has worked with Ambulance for the past
23 years, 20 of them in Bowral. He doesn’t think he’s a hero, but many in the
community do and would see his appointment as Rotary’s inaugural emergency
services
person of the year as a deserved tribute.
People feel “instantly better” when under the care of Chris and this is supported through the many emails and letters of support received from families and individuals, thanking him for the extra care he delivered. Chris is also a peer support officer for his colleagues, providing counselling and a sympathetic ear for problems that they encounter within everyday work practice.
“I was pretty shocked receiving the award,” said Chris. “So many other people in this line of work do fantastic things and I almost feel as though I don’t deserve it”.
A trophy and certificate were given to Chris at the Rotary weekly meeting held at the Highlands Golf Club. This is the first Rotary "Emergency Services Appreciation Award" in the Highlands and the organisation plans to recognise an outstanding individual each year.
Congratulations Chris.
