ZOLL watch for Peter Sergeant
During the course of our night shift on 20 June 2007, Paramedics Andrew Morrow
and Bruce Paddock from Castle Hill Station responded to a North
Parramatta resident, Mr Peter Sergeant, who was complaining of
chest pain. Peter had an acute
myocardial infarction in 1993.
Thankfully Peter had the presence of mind to call for an ambulance early. On our arrival, he was pale and diaphoretic with moderate type central chest pain and while assessing him he went into ventricular fibrillation and with one 150 joule shock we were able to revert him prior to intensive care back up arriving.
Peter was cannulated and transported to Westmead Hospital with multiple rhythms enroute (sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and sinus rhythm) but stable. On arrival, Peter was further assessed and transferred to the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory for an angiogram and received three stents.
After Peter’s 10 day hospital stay, he now enjoys life with his wife Sue coordinating a Mens’ Health group called ‘Mensheds Australia’ located at Westmead.
On Thursday 14 February 2008, Peter was presented with a watch from Zoll Australia in recognition of a successful outcome.
