Control centre officer

Control centre officers are required to respond to Triple Zero (000) calls as well as manage the ambulance resources responding to these calls.

Operating Environment

NSW Ambulance control centre's manage and control ambulance responses to Triple Zero (000) calls, and requests for ambulance services from allied health care providers and other emergency services.  Communications assistants and control centre officers answer and assess emergency and non-emergency calls and control centre officers control the dispatch and movement of ambulance resources.

The control centres are a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week operation, located at Eveleigh (Sydney), Warilla (Wollongong), Dubbo and Charlestown (Newcastle).

Given the 24 hour per day, 7 days per week operation of our control centres, staff are rostered on weekends, public holidays and night shifts.

Training

Control centre officers are multi-skilled and progressively build their competency in emergency and non-emergency call taking and the coordination of Ambulance resources. After undertaking an internship, a fully qualified control centre officer is able to be rostered on to a call-taking or dispatch role. They are required to complete regular training and recertification.

Salary

The salary range for control centre officers is $59,585 pa to $60,934pa. This salary rates do not include superannuation applicable shift allowances, annual leave loading or overtime. Other conditions of employment are outlined in the paramedics and control centre officers (State) Award.
