AEDs don't save lives – people with AEDs do

NSW Ambulance is responsible for the NSW Automated External Defibrillator public registry.

What is an AED?

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) can help save a life. They are portable devices that give a jolt of electricity to someone in cardiac arrest. Along with chest compressions, they can help get the person’s heart beating again.

These defibrillators are simple, safe and easy to use. Anyone can use them. You don’t need to have training. Once switched on, the AED will provide voice or visual prompts to tell you what to do.

Register an AED

You can register an AED on the:

  • GoodSAM app. Click on the ‘life ring’ symbol.

If you have several defibrillators to register, contact AMBULANCE-AEDRegistry@health.nsw.gov.au.

Registering publicly available defibrillators, helps save lives. To view AEDs near you, sign up as a GoodSAM volunteer and download the app.

Please note NSW Ambulance is unable to provide advice on replacement parts for AEDs, such as pads or batteries.
