Description: NSWA GoodSAM Project Officer and Paramedic Specialist, Monika Sitkowski, speaking to camera,

Speaker:

CPR is an easy skill that anyone can do and it could save someone’s life.

When someone is not conscious and not breathing or “gasping” for breath, they need CPR as soon as possible.

This video will talk you through how to do hands-only CPR as a GoodSAM volunteer - so you can help keep someone alive, while paramedics arrive.

When you arrive at an incident as a GoodSAM volunteer, it is likely that an Emergency Medical Calltaker is already on the line. If this is not the case you can call Triple Zero (000) for an Emergency Medical Calltaker to talk you through providing CPR.

Description: Manikin on the ground, person demonstrating CPR while call taker is on the phone.

Call-taker voice over:

  • Lay them flat on their back on the floor or ground on a firm surface and remove anything under their head.
  • Place the heel of your hand on the breastbone (in the centre of their chest), right between the nipples. Put your other hand on top of that hand.
  • Pump the chest hard and fast, at least twice per second and 5cm (2 inches) deep. Let the chest come all the way up between pumps. Count out loud so I can count with you.
  • You are doing really well. The ambulance are on their way and will be there soon.”

Speaker:

The call-taker will stay on the line with you until paramedics arrive on scene. Don’t stop until the paramedics arrive and take over from you.
